چکیده

• Gregg and Green concluded that phasic patterns of coronary flow recorded from meters placed at the ostia of coronary arteries fail to indicate actual hlood flow within the myocardium except during late systole and late diastole. They interpret the superficial arteries as in essence, elastic volume buffers imposed between flow meters and the myocardium. Three deviations of recorded flow curves from true myocardial flow may be predicted on theoretical grounds. 1. The magnitude of the sharp reversal of flow usually registered in early systole is underestimated because the blood expressed from deep layers of myocardium distends superficial vessels and is not metered. 2. The generally recorded mid-systolic forward flow is too high since the rise in aortic pressure results in further distention of large surface vessels and of vessels in superficial layers of myocardium where systolic extravascular compression is less than in deeper layers. This is recorded, however, as a forward flow through the meter. 3. Finally, the metered forward flow during early diastole is less than the true intramyocardial flow since blood from the distended superficial vessels flows into the relaxing myocardium without being metered. In dogs the septal artery passes almost

Phasic coronary blood flow velocity in intramural and epicardial coronary arteries.

Knowledge concerning phasic coronary blood flow is based primarily on measurements obtained from epicardial coronary arteries, which, in part, function as capacitors. If present, epicardial capacitance effects could obscure the dynamic nature of phasic intramyocardial perfusion. To analyze this effect of epicardial capacitance, we simultaneously measured coronary blood flow velocity in an epica...

Measuring the Nitroglycerine-Induced Vasodilation in Carotid Arteries

Introduction: Nitroglycerin is a fast-acting drug that rapidly dilates coronary arteries and thus increases blood flow to these vessels, and increases the blood flow through the lateral vessels to low blood areas. It also reduces both end diastolic pressure and volume of the left ventricular. However, the effect of nitroglycerin on the circulation hemodynamic is not known. Caro...

A Mathematical Model for Blood Flow Through Narrow Vessels with Mild-Stenosis (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper we examine the effect of mild stenosis on blood flow, in an irregular axisymmetric artery with oscillating pressure gradient. The Herschel-Bulkley fluid model has been utilized for this study. The combined influence of an asymmetric shape and surface irregularities of constriction has been explored in this computational study. An extensive quantitative analysis has been performed ...

Effect of intracoronary nitroglycerin administration on phasic pattern and transmural distribution of flow during coronary artery stenosis.

BACKGROUND Nitroglycerin is effective in relieving myocardial ischemia; however, intracoronary nitroglycerin often fails to relieve angina and has been reported to have deleterious effects on subendocardial blood flow. To understand the mechanisms involved, we evaluated the direct effect of nitroglycerin on coronary circulation of the ischemic hearts. METHODS AND RESULTS We measured the phasi...
